The Way the World Used to Be
February 29, 2020
Not so long ago
People had to leave their homes
You see, dinner did not bring itself
The movies weren’t all hiding in our TVs
That’s not a slight at technology
I’m just tired of losing out to fast and cheap
Now there’s a smoke shop where the Blockbuster used to be
The little toy stores all closed their doors ‘cause you just can’t beat free delivery
I don’t really mind that I can find everything I need from my living room with a click or a stream
Some days I just miss the way the world used to be
Not so long ago
I wasn’t tethered to my telephone
You see, I could hop a flight or sleep through the night without wondering what all these strangers thought of me
That’s not a slight at technology
I’m just tired of living my life through a screen
And now there’s a smoke shop where the Blockbuster used to be
The little toy stores all closed their doors ‘cause you just can’t beat free delivery
I don’t really mind that I can find everything I need from my living room with a click or a stream
Some days I just miss the way the world used to be
Somebody tell me why nobody wants to be nice until the cameras come around
And we’d all rather pass each other by,
Drive home, jump online, just to say “Hi”
Now insert my audible sigh
Now there’s a smoke shop where the Blockbuster used to be
The big toy store had to close its doors
‘Cause we all just said “Please ship it to me”
I don’t really mind that I can find everything I need from my living room with a click or a stream
Will this always be the way of the world?
Used to take a whole lot more than a swipe to get the girl
Today I’m just missin’ the way this world used to be
